Affordability

The ability for a cancer treatment to be provided at a cost that enables more people to access it without placing a financial burden on patients and their families.

Ambient-Temperature Stability

The ability of a treatment to remain stable without continuous refrigerated storage.

This can make storage and transportation easier, particularly in rural, remote and lower-resource settings where cold-chain infrastructure may be limited.

Cancer Immunotherapy

A type of cancer treatment that uses or stimulates the body's immune system to recognise and attack cancer.

Clinical Development

The process of evaluating and advancing a potential treatment through clinical studies in people to understand its safety, how it behaves and whether it may provide benefit.

Clinical Study / Clinical Trial

A carefully designed study involving people that evaluates a potential treatment, including its safety and how it works.

Cold Chain

Temperature-controlled storage and transportation used to keep some medicines within a required temperature range from manufacture through to use.

Treatments that require less reliance on cold-chain infrastructure can be easier to store and transport in some healthcare settings.

Equitable

Recognising that people face different circumstances and barriers, and creating greater opportunities for them to benefit according to their needs.

In cancer treatment, this includes considering barriers such as cost, where people live and access to healthcare.

Equitable Access

Creating greater opportunities for people to access cancer treatment regardless of where they live or their financial circumstances.

Equitable Oncology Model

The way Equitable Oncology helps advance cancer treatments with the people who may ultimately need them in mind from the beginning.

The Model brings together scientific innovation, philanthropy and collaborative partnerships while considering factors such as cost, manufacturing, storage and how and where treatment could ultimately be delivered.

Intellectual Property (IP)

Legal rights associated with inventions, discoveries, technologies and other creations.

Intellectual property ownership will depend on the individual programme. For K5K, the treatment is owned and developed by KodeRx Limited, while the underlying Kode Immuno-Educer (KIE) technology platform is owned and developed by Kode Biotech Limited.

K5K

K5K is an innovative cancer immunotherapy and the first programme being advanced through the Equitable Oncology Model.

The name K5K reflects:

  • K – Kode Technology, the platform on which K5K is based.
  • 5 – its target treatment cost of USD $5,000 or less per treatment course.
  • K – thousand, reflecting the target cost of USD $5,000 (5K) per treatment course.

Kode Immuno-Educer (KIE)

A technology designed to tag cancer cells with immune-stimulating markers, helping make the cancer visible to the immune system so it can recognise and respond to it.

Kv9

A third-generation Kode Immuno-Educer is being evaluated in veterinary oncology and preliminary anti-tumour responses have been observed.

Kv9 uses the same molecule as K5K, providing translational evidence relevant to the K5K human programme.

Philanthropy

The voluntary contribution of money or other resources to support a charitable or public-benefit purpose.

Scalable Manufacturing

The ability to manufacture a treatment efficiently and consistently in increasing quantities as more treatment is required.

TAG. ALARM. ATTACK.

A simple way of describing how K5K is designed to stimulate an immune response against cancer.

TAG: K5K tags cancer cells with immune-stimulating markers, helping make the cancer visible to the immune system.

ALARM: Immune cells are recruited to the K5K-treated tumour.

ATTACK: The activated immune system attacks the treated tumour and aims to generate a broader response against other tumours elsewhere in the body.
